Founded in 1966 in Edmonton, Alberta, the Ahmed Group has a long-standing tradition of excellence in real estate development. The late Dr. Hashim M. Ahmed, a visionary leader and respected community figure, established the company and his teachings continue to guide the organization’s decision-making to this day.

Under the leadership of his eldest son and current President and CEO, Mr. Moe Ahmed, the Ahmed Group has experienced significant growth and expansion. As of 2022, the company is a major player in the development of new rental residential housing across Ontario, with a development pipeline valued at over $2 Billion and assets under management of over $60 Million.

Through Mr. Ahmed’s leadership, acute business acumen and proven track record, the Ahmed Group is well-positioned for continued success and exponential growth in the future.

MOE AHMED

PRESIDENT AND CEO

As CEO, Moe leads the executive team, focusing on business relationships and strategy, and providing executive oversight on all operations. He is responsible for making critical decisions and identifying new opportunities for growth and expansion. Moe has over 12 years of experience in the residential and commercial real estate industry and, together with his team, manages over $60 million in assets and a development pipeline of over $1 billion in projects in Ontario, Canada.

Moe’s expertise spans multiple disciplines, including land planning, real estate law, corporate finance, government relations, real estate development, construction and property and asset management. This breadth of knowledge, coupled with his leadership and entrepreneurial acumen, makes him well-suited to guide the Ahmed Group as it embarks on a new chapter of development and construction.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Moe is also dedicated to giving back to the communities in which he grew up and around the world. He serves as the Executive Director of the Ahmed Foundation, a charitable initiative he founded to support organizations helping people in need, including The Canadian Red Cross, Trillium Health Partners, and the International Development and Relief Foundation. He also founded and serves as the Executive Director of the “Down with Hatred” initiative, a non-profit organization that seeks to break barriers and foster unity, intercultural dialogue and connections between communities.

Moe’s entrepreneurial journey began at a young age, as the Founder and CEO of the TAC Auto Group, and as the Founder and President of the Ontario Car Dealers Association. His ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities, coupled with his leadership skills, have been key to his success and will continue to serve as the backbone of the Ahmed Group as it grows and expands.

Timothy Harris

COO

Timothy is an accomplished professional with over 16 years of experience in the real estate and investment industries. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Ahmed Group of Companies, a leading real estate investment and development firm. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the company’s financial, technology and talent development operations, and other organizational platforms. He works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to lead the overall strategic direction of the Ahmed Group, including investment and development opportunities, management of the Group’s purpose-built income-producing properties and communication with key stakeholders.

Timothy’s career began in the construction industry, where he honed his skills as a project manager. He then transitioned to commercial real estate development, building a billion-dollar-plus real estate development pipeline, and overseeing a national portfolio focused on purpose-built student rentals. Before joining the Ahmed Group, he was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of TAHO Capital Management Inc., a research-driven hedge fund management firm. He led the development of a proprietary quantitative investment system and oversaw the launch and operations of the TAHO Global Enhanced Fund.

Timothy holds a Bachelor of Engineering Science in Software Engineering from Western University, which has been instrumental in his ability to understand and evaluate real estate investments from both technical and financial perspectives. His wealth of experience, coupled with his technical background, makes him well-suited to lead the operations and strategic direction of the Ahmed Group.

BADAR RANA

CPA, CMA CAO

Badar Rana is a highly experienced finance and accounting professional with over 20 years of experience in controllership, public accounting, and industry. He has a demonstrated in-depth knowledge of formulating and implementing organizational policies and procedures, fulfilling statutory requirements, and conformance to accounting standards. He has also gained extensive international experience.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with majors in Accounting and Auditing and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in Ontario, Canada. He has held various positions throughout his career including being a Corporate Controller for the Ahmed Group of Companies, a real estate development and construction company, and for GP Custom Metals Inc., a specialty steel manufacturing and fabrication company.

He also served as a Regional Contract Controller for Wärtsilä Corporation, a leading multinational company that provides complete Lifecycle power solutions for marine and energy markets globally.

In addition to his professional experience, Badar also serves as a Board Member for Peel Cheshire Homes Brampton Inc. and was a Board Member and Member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Compassion Society of Halton.

JOSE GARRETON

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Jose is an experienced and accomplished Senior Project Manager with over 35 years of experience in the construction industry. He is a highly skilled professional with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in all aspects of project management, from concept design and planning to cost analysis and supervision. His exceptional communication, teamwork, leadership, and organizational skills have enabled him to successfully manage a wide range of projects throughout his career, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Throughout his career, Garreton has held senior roles at several reputable companies such as Ahmed Group of Companies, Diamond Luxury Developments, Grander Designs & Consulting, CSEI-Intron Engineering Corp, and Gowlings Lafleur Henderson LLP. He has been responsible for managing projects from the tendering and awarding of proposals to final design, permit applications, zoning variances, cost analysis, feasibility studies, and budgeting. He has also been responsible for managing all professional services and professional reports, ensuring that all projects are completed to the highest standard.

In his free time, Garreton is a dedicated pastor and director at New Hope Reformed Church, where he serves as Minister of Word and Sacraments and is responsible for the spiritual well-being of a congregation of around 100 people. He is a highly respected professional with a reputation for excellence and a commitment to delivering results. His experience, skills, and dedication make him an invaluable asset to any organization looking for a highly capable and results-driven Senior Project Manager.

STEPHEN SPARLING

Head of Government Relations

Stephen is currently the Vice President of Government Relations and Communications at Ahmed Group of Companies. He has a long history of involvement in politics and public service, having served as a Regional Councillor in Oakville, Ontario for nearly ten years and as Chairman of the Halton Planning and Public Works for five. He has also held leadership roles in various political and charitable organizations, including the Conservative Fund of Canada, the Toronto Board of Trade, and the Toronto Blue Jays Foundation.

After leaving elected politics, Stephen became President of Halton Government Relations, advising land investors and developers in Halton. He was a founding Board member of the Oakville Economic Development Corporation and Chaired the Mississauga Board of Trade Government Affairs. He was also a member of the Toronto Board of Trade Municipal Affairs, which worked extensively with Mayor Ford in reducing the City of Toronto’s annual budget by over $340 million dollars.

Throughout his career, Stephen has been a sought-after expert on both business and political affairs and has been interviewed by various media outlets, including the Business News Network (BNN), CBC Radio, CBC Power & Politics, CTV Question Period, Profit Magazine, Globe & Mail, and the Toronto Star. Stephen is known for his commitment to supporting his clients and colleagues, his vast vision, and his attention to detail, which allows him to achieve goals and objectives quickly and efficiently.
